Top Tips to Remember When Drilling Into Brick

  • When drilling brick, ideally you want to use the slowest possible speed that will get the job done.
  • Use the slowest speed and don’t turn on the hammer action for soft masonry. For hard masonry, choose a slightly faster speed and turn on the hammer action.
  • If the bricks have a smooth surface, you might use a nail punch to make a place to start your bit. This will keep the drill bit from going off on its own.
  • Let the drill do the work. Use the side handle if your drill is supplied with one. Do lean into the drill as it works, but without forcing it, remembering the above step about clearing the dust.
