First off, what is “kickback”?
“Kickback” is what the Power Tool Institute calls a sudden, unintentional movement of the tool or workpiece. It’s usually caused by the item getting stuck or pinched.”
Drill kickback happens on the job site when you try to do something with your drill that it doesn’t have the power to do, the bit isn’t up to par, or your bit gets caught on something (like a screw or nail) in the area you’re drilling into.
No one wants kickback from their power drill because it can cause accidents, especially when working at a high level. To do this, Bosch equipped the new GSR and GSB 14.4/18 VE-2-Li Robust series drills with technology. Please note that most other brands now have “Kickback Control” as well, which works the same way to keep users from getting hurt and make them more effective.

What’s Bosch’s Solution to “Kickback”?
The answer that Bosch has come up with is ERC, which stands for Electronic Rotation Control. ERC controls the drill’s rotation electronically, limiting the drill’s spin in case of a “kickback” situation. A built-in acceleration gauge in the tool is used to control the system. It looks for sudden movements of the tool and cuts power to the motor when it sees one. This keeps you from breaking your wrist, arm, or something worse and protects the tool itself.
Then, to start the drill again, just press the trigger.
